Contemporary Classical Composer

In the concert hall Shi writes music that asks to be listened to closely. Each work starts from a single idea of sound, a chord that slowly opens, a recorded landscape, a line passed between players, and follows it patiently, without the need to underline a story.

This is where film music ends: a score for the screen serves the picture, while these works set their own time, form and space. Acoustic instruments meet electronics and field recordings, and silence is treated as part of the material.
